SAIPAN, MP--The North Pacific island of Saipan might be an unlikely setting for a nomad's adventure, as few in the west are familiar with this furthest east American territory just an hour's flight from Guam. But Notes from a Jamaican in Saipan, a new book by Walt Goodridge, who who chose it for his escape from the rat race, may yet change that fact.

"I wanted to tell a different story," Goodridge explains. "from a perspective and through eyes you don't normally experience." And he does indeed. A self-described Jamaican, mimimalist, nomapdreneur, who also happens to be vegan, Goodridge's story begins with escape from America, and chronicles through blog entry and email, his almost aborted trip to Japan, his arrival and acclimation to Saipan's lifestyle. He explores cross-cultural dating, being vegan, launching a food-co-op, and making money on a Pacific island.

In his former life in the states, Goodridge is the author of 12 books, internet entrepreneur of over a dozen websites, public speaker and career coach. But he's not afraid to risk baring the ignominy of some of his experiences, such as one humorously chronicled episode having no money or credit card and having to call friends in the middle of the night for a loan to get make a flight, or the "rats in the kitchen" situation, or his not having done sufficient research to know that he needed a visa for travel to certain countries.

The book also doubles as a travel guide, covering a wide range of topics of interest to visitors to Saipan. And by the time you finish reading, you know enough about Saipan's culture, lifestyle, economy, tourist spots and even some of the local celebrities to feel like you've been there, or to decide if you want to go.

Retirees, nomads, tourists alike will find the information entertaining and educational, and a great way to round out your knowledge of this relatively unknown island paradise from a unique perspective.

"Walt Goodridge's story is a personal, inspiring, at times embarrassing often amusing, but never dull account of the adventure that life often gives as reward to those with the courage to live their dreams. With a Jamaican's eye, coach's perspective, and a poet's touch, Walt chronicles his experiences first hand, offering revealing emails, blog posts, private journal entries, along with insightful observations and analysis from his unique perspective! See the world through this Jamaican eyes."
